Often a subtle expression, a memory, or an idea will remind me that I have subconsciously internalized aspects of my loved ones. This makes me wonder, beyond our basic genes, how much of the Self is a merely a collection of those shared elements we have absorbed along the way. I am further intrigued by how this concept is mirrored on the physical macro level as well: We are able to access and express those shared ideas, memories, or traits by the connections made by our neural networks, which are, in turn, maintained by what we nutritionally consume from the surrounding world.
The overlapping and shifting colors, images, and shapes of this series speak to those connections we have with those around us. Each set has shared traits but overlaps with every other set, and by extension, wherever these cups end up, each new owner inherently has a tie with every other new owner.
